What we do

Proper groundwork first. That is how every job starts for us, whether we are laying a full porcelain terrace or re-setting a single sunken slab. Get the base wrong and the surface will fail, it does not matter how good the stone looks on day one.

We are a patio installation outfit based in Thaxted, Essex. Most of our work is across the local area, and we deal with the full range of conditions you find in Essex gardens, heavy clay, poor drainage, ground that moves in a wet winter.

Materials we work with

• Porcelain tiles, large format and standard
• Indian sandstone paving
• Concrete flagstones
• Block paving
• Natural stone, including Liscannor flagstone where clients want something with real character to it

Liscannor is a stone I have always rated. It beds well, it weathers honestly, and it holds its colour in a way that a lot of manufactured alternatives simply do not over time.

Other services

Patios are the core of it, however we cover a fair bit more across the garden. Fencing, walling, paths, laid turf, artificial grass. Some customers come to us for one thing and end up having us do the whole outdoor space in one go, which keeps disruption down.

On the technical side, we specify a minimum 100mm compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base on all patio installations, with falls calculated to current drainage requirements before any bedding goes down.
